The European Joint Action on Frailty Prevention is framed within the Third EU health programme (2014-2020). ADVANTAGE project has had a budget of 3.5 million euros and should be performed for three years starting January 2017. It includes 22 member states and over 40 organizations. Spain, in particular health services in Madrid - Hospital "Getafe" (reference object of the European Innovation Partnership on active and healthy aging, EIP- AHA), supported by the Ministry of health, social services and equality have coordinated this initiative.

The main objective of the project is to create a common European framework to tackle frailty that is the main condition associated with the risk of developing disabilities. This objective includes the development of strategies adapted to the preconditions, interests and priorities of each Member State within the aforementioned framework. This approach will allow for policy development, adaptable to local conditions, but also within a common homogeneous framework.

ADVANTAGE project will help reduce disability and dependence and will prevent the large number of needs related to the growing burden of chronic diseases. It will also contribute to a more adequate response to the needs of older people, when delivering care services, including aspects relating to the gender gap through better planning of care and coordination, by using innovative organizational approaches and better cooperation between professional and informal care, including support for activities related to cares for themselves.

The project will be based on previous development of the European Innovation Partnership on active and healthy aging - EIP-AHA, mainly as a continuation of the work, results and best practices established by the Initiative Group A3 for prevention of frailty and reference sites as well as the work activities started from The European Commission in 2012 in response to demographic changes in the European Union.

The project activities are implemented in eight work packages. NCPHA participate in the implementation of Work Package 2 (Communication, awareness and dissemination), WP 5 (Understanding the frailty at the population level) and WP 6 (Managing frailty at the individual level).
